Once I Was a Skateboarder

Once I was a skateboarder.
With a push and a kick,
I’d be rolling along.
That was when we were kids.

Once I was a skateboarder,
Practice took my attention.
Like a plant taking water,
Growth became an obsession.

Once I was a skateboarder,
A marksman and an artist.
The board was my easel,
And landing my target.

Once I was a skateboarder,
A stunning magician,
With magical movement,
And flashes of brilliance.

Once I was a skateboarder,
And truly a dancer.
For I tangoed with fear,
And with danger right after.

Once I was a skateboarder,
And a gambler of sorts.
The wager was bones,
Blood, bruises and more.

Once I was a skateboarder,
Concrete was my home.
But as days to years,
Years passed, I had grown.

I no longer skateboard.
My attentions been removed,
No more helmets or pads,
Or cool skateboard shoes.

The thrill it has passed,
Not gone, only passed.
Received by the next gen,
The new skateboarding class.
